The Return of Blue Christmas

An open mic celebration of depressions and the blues, just in time for the holidays!
Bring your festive grievances, since nothing makes you feel better about your own life more than hearing just how much more miserable someone else’s life is. As we all know “misery loves company”

The CCCP invites anyone to join us on stage to tell us their heart wrenching Christmas tales and the one with the most depressing story wins a lovely holiday prize and a chance to drink their blues away.

Music will be provided by legendary local doomsayer Derrick McCandless.

All this will take place At the Home of the Blues, Winnipeg’s Legendary Windsor Hotel. at 187 Garry Street. Dec 19, 2012.
Doors open at 8pm, tales begin at 9pm

KATALOG – ISSUE 8: Humors (the body fluid issue)

“From mixture of the four [humors] in different weights, [God the most high] created different organs; one with more blood like muscle, one with more black bile like bone, one with more phlegm like brain, and one with more yellow bile like lung. [God the most high] created the souls from the softness of humors; each soul has it own weight and amalgamation. “

You can’t recognize the body as an instrument of creation unless you are willing to recognize the fluids within.

KATALOG is looking for performance photos, videos and write ups on performances which incorporate bodily fluids, their concept, idea or inspiration.

KATALOG is an online publication with video and sound capabilities which is dedicated to the practice of performance and live art. Each Issue deals with a different type of performance and in this issue we focus on artworks that deals with the object as an accompaniment or as the main focus of a performative work. This call is open for artists from all disciplines from around the globe. The online component of KATALOG makes it an international magazine that expands the audience of your work and allows it to be permanently available on our website. Submissions can be essays about your work, photos, audio or videos. Just be sure to give us a bio about yourself and your artistic practices so people can identify you and your work.

Alter Ego Beauty Pageant: KATALOG Issue 7 release party and Fundraiser!

This is your chance to perform to show your Ego’s full potential.

The CCCP is holding an Alter ego Beauty Pageant and we are looking for people to be judged on their alter ego, “talent” and “beauty”. There is a cash prize for the winner as well as bragging rights!

The contest consists of a birthday/bathing suit competition and then the talent portion!

The beauty contest/performance will be held on Sept. 8 2012

The Central Canadian Center for Performance Presents:
Trifecta Part 1: MechAnima

Through technology life is made simpler, yet at the same time more difficult.
Our struggles with technology often outweigh the benefits (ie. Time spent searching for the remote, in order to avoid getting up to turn on the TV). Technology helps to build community, but at the same time often separates personal relationships.

The CCCP has gathered 5 artists to present works inspired by this theme.

Call for Performance Proposals: TRIFECTA, part 1: Mech-Anima

Technology has a life force and life is suffering.

The Central Canadian Center for Performance is seeking 4 artists to present work in the first of a three part performance series.

As a response to this, we are looking for performance works which address one of the the four noble truths of Buddhist philosophy as applied to this love/hate relationship to technology:

Life is Suffering
The origin of suffering is attachment and accumulation
the cessation of suffering is attainable
the path to the cessation of suffering

This is a juried show for Manitoba artists whose works are based in performance or live art. This is a multi-disciplinary show and we invite artists from all performance disciplines. Four artists works will be chosen and each artist will receive $200 for their performance work. There is no funds for travel but arrangements can be made for boarding artists from outside of Winnipeg.

The event will take place at the Atomic Center, March 30th, 2012. The space is a large 30’x 60’ empty space with 14’ ceilings. There is lots of power available. We can provide a basic PA and projectors, but artists are encouraged to supply their own equipment if possible.

Submissions can be new works or old works.

Project Description (1 page)
Visual aids (jpgs, youtube / vimeo links, website, etc.)

KATALOG: EXERTION – Dance is movement, dance is alive

KATALOG issue 5 – Submission deadline February 14th

Dance may be regarded as a form of nonverbal communication between humans, and is also performed by other animals (bee dance, patterns of behaviour such as a mating dance). Gymnastics, figure skating and synchronized swimming are sports that incorporate dance, while martial arts are often compared to dances. Motion in ordinarily inanimate objects may also be described as dances (the leaves danced in the wind). Dance can be written about and photographed, but the motion and emotion are captured with more accuracy and beauty with video.

This is why the Central Canadian Center for Performance is looking for dance works to put in its next issue of KATALOG. KATALOG is an online publication with video and sound capabilities which is dedicated to the practice of performance and live art. Each Issue deals with a different type of performance and compiles artists work from around the globe. Due to the fact that our audience spans many different types of performance, the featured works will reach an audience both in and outside of the dance community. The online component of KATALOG makes it an international magazine that expands the audience of your work even more, and is permanently available on our website.

Intermittent Performances Throughout the Exhibition

PLATFORM is very excited to be presenting local Toronto transplant,
Andrew Harwood, in his first solo exhibition in Winnipeg. Infamous in
the Toronto Queen West scene as an artist and performer (under the
stage name Madame Zsa Zsa), Harwood is crafting a new body of work
confusing the internationally-renowned history of Winnipeg séance
photography circa 1900, and the contemporary queer bar dance
circuit. Using a hybrid installation of large-scale photography, video
installation, and glue-gun sequin crafts, Harwood’s Séancé will be a
feast for the eyes and senses!

PLATFORM is also pleased to host the official Winnipeg launch of
Prefix Photo 24 _ Big Skies Issue, featuring portfolios by prairie
artists from Winnipeg and beyond.

Please join us for the opening reception with performance / readings
by Madame Zsa Zsa, the $2 Psychic, and the Prefix Photo launch :
Friday 13 January from 8PM to 11PM.

About the Artist:

Andrew Harwood is a Toronto-based artist, curator, drag queen and
writer. Among the first artists to establish a presence in what is now
called the Queer West Village Toronto, Art and Design District, his
gallery, Zsa Zsa, operated in Queer West from 1998-2005. Andrew was
also a founding member of the Toronto Alternative Art Fair
International Collective and served as Board of Directors President of
A Space Gallery and Board Member of Gallery TPW. He has given lectures
on visual art and related topics at the University of Texas, Ontario
College of Art and Design, University of Waterloo, Georgian College
and at artist-run centres in Ontario and Alberta. His work is held in
permanent collections at the University of Guelph, Queen’s University,
and in private collections. With nearly two dozen solo shows, and
twice as many group shows, for his practice Harwood has received
support from the Toronto and Ontario and Arts Councils. He relocated
to Winnipeg in 2010 and has since been active in the local community,
including commencing his graduate studies MFA at the University of
Manitoba’s School of Art.

Prefix Photo is an engaging magazine dedicated to contemporary
photography and related arts. Characterized by innovative design and

portfolio and essay sections, providing a complement of intelligent
texts and breath-taking visuals. These features are accompanied by
newsbriefs which provide information and opportunities for
professional photographers, including new technological developments.

photographers, both emerging and established, alongside that of their
